Essay on Alternate Reality Games
The topic I chose for the essay for Have Fun and Play! is Alternate Reality Games. Roderick Evans-Knaup gave a very interesting presentation on the subject during one of the Have Fun and Play! lectures. I used his presentation as the basis for the essay.
CreaTe religion started out as a series of "rules" Dmitri Kazachkov and me identified as the rules for the students of Creative Technology. These rules, now known as the thirteen commandments, are the basis of the Creative Technology religion. Since the website for the religion has gone online, a lot of content has been added by other Creative Technologists. Please take in mind that the website is not to be taken seriously, but has to be seen as a comical critique on our study.
The course "Have Fun and Play!" requires you to make your own (mini)game. Instead of making a small game individually, Sven Dekker suggested to make a game with a big group, since we haven't done projects with really big groups this year. Working with a sizeable team offers the advantage that several tasks can be completed in parallel, and everybody can work on the task he or she excels at. My part in the project is designing the website and programming the game. Read more about the game on the website.
